but i just wanna know which is the best way to get the best possible audio on a SVCD when ripping from a DVD.
    what bitrate should it be ? -- 192kHz or 224 ?? and should i use a sample rate of 44.1 or 48 kHz ??

    Thanks

The SVCD standard specifies 44.1kHz audio, though many players seem to play them with 48kHz as well. You probably can't hear the difference so it's probably a little better to stick with the standard 44.1kHz. I use 224k stereo for most things, but if you're really concerned about the quality you can always test to see if you notice a real difference at higher bitrates.

  3. does dual channel have an edge over stereo, or joint stereo

Joint stereo may sound better at lower bitrates (like under 160k). Some people say that dual channel sounds better or retains Dolby Surround better, but I don't really think so. I imagine that dual channel may be better at higher bitrates, but most of the time stereo probably is the better choice.

  5. Use Ac3 sound if u want the original DVD audio quality
Or use Graphedit to convert the Ac3 stream to uncompressed Wav, then compress it with Lame --altpresets.
I dunno why Graphedit does a better job converting ac3 to wav but its my experience that the wav file sound great and dont need any normalizing
