Ok so far I have authored around 10 movies with no problems. I am using DOOM's guide on dvd-9 to dvdr conversion using CCE , ifoupdate, chapterxtractor, subrip & dvd maestro.
My question is this for you all experts. I am having trouble succesfully writing a movie that is contained in VTS_8 set. I re-encoded, and did everytying else like usual but my standalone won't PLAY it(yes it suports dvd+rw since i have burned many before on it). I know i did the ifoupdate..What can be the problem??
I am succesfull in burning dvd's if the movie is contained in VTS_01 or VTS_02..i have had problems if the movie is in VTS_08 or VTS_07..and yes I did use VTS_08.ifo as original when did ifoupdate..
If anyone can help, It would help me al ot.
Thanks.
Jimmy

@ Jimmy, whether the main movie PGC is in the first vob set or the 10TH vob set, as it is with the NTSC version of Planet of the Apes, it has no bearing whatsoever on being able to back up the movie. The formula is still the same. What movie is it, and it is NTSC or PAL? You seem to think that your problem is with the burning since you said it is a write error. What software are you using to burn? And what does your standalone player do when you put this disk in as opposed to other disks that you have successfully created. Does your DVD ROM play the disks flawlessly? Make sure you get VTS SECTORS all the time if you strip and create new files with IFOEdit. If you forget to get VTS sectors on the new .IFO file, then it will not play in your standalone player.

Its a NTSC movie since I am in Washington D.C! Meet the Parents, I did correct the VTS_Sectors. The SONY DVD Playern NS715P says "The disk is dirty". Now you may think the disk is dirty? However, I opened a fresh DVD+RW and wrote using NERO using UDF 1.02 mode. I have done this so many times in the past. I Don't know what I am doing wrong. Let's see to double check if my DVD+RW disc is not fudged up, I burned Old movies i had authored on it and ALL Of them work like a charm on this SONY Player and a Toshiba pLayer i have upstairs..ITs so annoying! I got no clue what i am doing wrong..something wrong with encoding? I do get this warning(I did get it before too while authoring succesfull movies):
Warning: Source to destination mismatch:
Original Time = 01:49:21
Newly Authored Time = 1:49:29
This is the weirdest thing that has happened..damnit! HElp me!

Jimmy, I can tell you two things that MAY be the problem. One, that sony standalone player you have is garbage. I bought it and realized that it was skipping on certain SVCD's and DVD+RW's. I took it back, and got my Philips which must be the best standalone player on the market. Since I have had the Philips, I get NO MORE errors or skipping. That thing would play a pancake. Another problem may be with Nero. Different versions of Nero need different settings selected. What may of worked in a previous version of Nero, often won't work in newer versions. Do a search about Record Now Max and strongly consider checking that out.

Hey defense, thanks. Yah i was thinking of going back to philiips, it was a sweet player, HOWEVER I have this concern. I backed-up XXX by re-encoding and then playing on the philips, worked like a charm. I then burned a DVD+R of XXX and that won't play upstairs in the Toshiba Player..SO my issue is this, Ofcourse i want to author DVD's that would work on 90% of the players? I have record now max but my drive NEC1100A is not supported..tried the update..doesnt work! I don't know what else to use? Nero has worked for 9/10 DVD's for me(where 1=xxx)...
Thanks for your help..any other software? Comments? suggestions?
Thanks.. -
You too, eh.. Well, I've got the DVP-NS700P and that pos also gives me the 'disc is dirty' error on certain movies... let me know if you've got a fix.. other than a new player.. '-)
-
@jimboy, then at least you are in the 90% range. I really think the standalone player is your problem though. As far as XXX, why would you reencode that movie? It is small enough to just strip a little of the extras off and then will be ready to burn.
-
Defense, Yah i got greedy and I wanted extras tooo..I woulnd't go for it next time though. I also was doing this 3:00 movie thats y I had to reencode. I may return the sony player today and get back the philips at bestbuy. I am pretty sure I wont mind going back to the hot looking CSR specilaist

Alrighty! This is an update to my problems(not personal btw just DVD)..So after talking to SONY tech support(nice girl sherry), he explained to me that "since i was doing illegal stuff", He couldn't help me..But ha! I knew my ways, I then reverted my question to OH wait i meant my HOme video..So he then goes "I am glad you said that" wink wink i know stan! Ok so He told me to first try sony Brand..WRONG! try again stan, he th en helped by sending me a free version of SONY DVD SONIC that would help me write on the disc..Maybe but anyways This is what we(me and sherry) I did for people with SONY DVD STANDALONE that have "DISC is DIRTY" error.
1) The software makes a big difference(thanks DEFENSE). I was using NERO and it was working fine for philips but to make SONY dvd players read the authored discs ALWAYS USE VOB INSTANT CD/DVD version 6.5 NOT version 6.0 since they only recognize if u burn with 6.5, make sure to select DVD VIDEO UDF as mentioned in the guide on this website.
2) SONY DVD Players WILL NOT read the following DVD+R - MAXELL anything lower than 2.5. CUrrently on the market there is Maxell DVD+R(2.4x)
Any DVD+R WITHOUT THE PURPLE DYE will not be READ BY SONY!!!
Currently all the DVD+R's generally have purple dye. Which means cheap media such as RITEK MAY NOT WORK.
3) There is a firmware upgrade for SONY DVD PLAYERS: NS7*** which can be ordered from SONY ONLY IF YOU HAVE ORGINAL RECEIPT of your purchase.
Since I am returning this piece of crap sony..I will go ahead and get the Philips one.
Thanks DEFENSE!! and all others..
Peace

@ Jimmy, I'm glad you found out information to help you. Sony started getting into the war of the different formats for DVD's, etc, and as a result, they started making their DVD Players, less and less complaint in terms of multiformat. Even though that player "offically" supports SVCD, it really plays them crappy. Taking the player back to best buy, (which by the way, is where I returned the Sony for my Philips as well) is the best thing you can do. Let me know how that works out.
-
Well I will return it tommorow. Another question, I was using VOB instant CD/DVD and it gets to 97% and it says "illegal request, invalid block address"..gave me a damn coaster..
Do you know anything about this defense or anyone else?
