  1. I have currently been using dvd2svcd with great success. But have read about the resolution of a divx avi vs an svcd and that you can store almost an entire dvd to about 650megs of divx at great quality? Correct me if I am wrong?

Can anyone fill me in on a program that will take a dvd or a vob file and encode it to a divx avi file?

I did some searching but am confussed about it...

    Thanks

  2. Yes you can get an entire film onto one CD in DivX format, but it won't play on your standalone DVD player unless you've got one of the new models that accepts MPEG4 encoded movies.

If it's for playback on a PC then go for it. There's a package called Vidomi that is very easy to use and give good results. You can get it along with a user guide from:

    http://www.vidomi.com

Or Gordian Knot is another great package which you can get from:

    http://www.doom9.org/software2.htm

Whichever you decide to use, you'll need the DivX codecs installed on your PC which you can get from:

    http://www.divx.com

  3. But the quality of a svcd movie is still a lot better then a divx movie in my opinion.

Why don't you just convert the DVD straight to SVCD instead of DVD-DivX-SVCD???
