BeSweet is more for 5.1 to WAV, or more correctly 6 channel down to 2. Or downmixing 5.1 audio to a 2 channel AC3 compatable WAV for use in AVI/SVCD. To go form 2 channel to 6, you have to manually balance the audio. Yes you can do it with some non-free software, but it's now what you are thinking. If you already have the AC3 sound, keep it, it's typically 'good enough' and no amount of work will make a better 5.1 soundtrack.

  4. be sweet can do this, I do it all the time. Mostly converting mp2 -> ac3... but I do wav -> ac3 as well. Not sure about the 5.1 though.

  5. Softencode 5.1 is a great simple program for converting waves to 5.1. I use it all the time.

What do you use for the source of your 6th (subwoofer) channel? I like to put belly noises in for my tv caps to dvd conversions. I find most of my source wav files are really mono masquerading as stero.

Some of you aren't listening. How can you take 2 audio channels and make 6? You can't.

AC3 isn't 4 audio channels, it's 2 multiplexed channels. This means you don't get distinct left, right, center, and rear sounds.

Now if you want to take 2 audio channels....merge left+right for a simulated center, fake flip left front to left rear, fake flip right fron to right rear, and low-pass filter the bass to the subwolfer channel.......go for it. It's still stereo, specifically it will be simulated surround, just like most stereos can produce.

You can always add your own additional tracks. Good luck, this isn't a minor undertaking.

  8. Ah Gazorgan you're no fun!

Take the origional 2 channels, put them to front left and right, add the belly grumbeling for good old ".1", throw in a plane fly-by on the 2 rear, and forget the center cause that's for voices anyway. Boy, just think of the possibilities if you worked with porn !?!
