  1. Hi Everyone,

i have had problems with subtitles on my SVCD:

Both DVDs are UK PAL. I am using DVD2SVCD and CCE v2.50

I have tried to backup taxi and, because it is a french film, i have tried to rip ther subtitles. all i do is tick the "rip subtitles" button and ensure that subtitle langaue 1 is in English. However, when i hit the rip & convert button in the conversion tab the log says that it is unable to find any subtitles, although i KNOW that there are some because i have watched the movie with subtitles!!! It should be noted that the subtitles are on as defailt in this movie, as even though i bought it in the UK it is a french film.

    Thanks for your help!!!!

Not sure what you mean by "the subtitles are on as default". If you mean that they are permanent subs (you cannot turn them off), then you don't have to rip them. Try "do not rip subs", maybe just for one chapter, and see if the subs show up in your finished mpeg, before you rip the whole movie.

  3. by "on as default" i mean that the when i put the DVD into the drive it automatically plays the film with subtitles. i guess this is because the majority of viewers would want subtitles on as the film is french but the dvd is UK pal??? cheers for the reply though m8!

so, an you think of any reason why DVD2SVCD would be unable to find the subtitles in this DVD, and yet have no problems finding it in Taxi 2, which is obviously very similar???

  4. Rip the DVD w/ smartripper (or just look at the streaming process) to confirm which subtrack has the english subs, they could be mis-labelled. For example, in the movie traffic the english subtitles used when people are speaking in spanish are labelled as 'french' (because english was already taken to use 'full english subs').
