It seems that xvid movie don´t display subtitles with regular players so I suggest that you install this player which can display subtitles for divx and xvid movies:

  5. Another question, I went to a one of those links and downloaded a zip file that contained .txt files with the subs inside, something like this (guess what movie)

{69394}{69482}Buen Sméagol así lo hace, Amo lo dijo.
    {69482}{69513}Eso hice.
    {69719}{69754}¿Y ahora qué?
    {69805}{69846}No podemos cruzarla.
    {70912}{70932}Mira.
    {70954}{70972}La puerta.
    {70990}{71015}Se está abriendo.
{71198}{71231}Puedo ver un camino para bajar.
    {71264}{71292}- ¡Sam!| - ¡No!
    {71365}{71394}¡Amo!
{73414}{73473}- No te pido que vengas conmigo, Sam.|- Lo sé, Sr. Frodo.
{73515}{73589}Dudo que éstas capas élficas,| nos oculten allí adentro.

Now what do I do with these text files? I thought subs were supposed to come in a different format.

If you are just going to watch the movie in the computer then you can install this program, the only thing you need to do is to rename your subtitle like your movie example if your movie is "Blade 2" then rename your sub to "Blade 2" too and put the subtitle in same directory as the movie.

If you want a different format of the sub then you will find a tool called Subresync in the program above which you can easy change your subtitle format.
