  1. I have some downloaded movies, AVI format, the video quality is so-so. When I encode them into VCD can I make them better by changing settings? Or am I stuck with bad quality video? Thanks

You can't create something out of nothing !

Note that going from AVI (I assume DivX) to VCD (not XVCD) you might see some degradation in quality, but this depends on how good/bad your source is.

  3. you're stuck, was it like a DivX or Xvid movie. look at vcdquality.com and search for your movie, each movie gets released by 5 different ripping groups. try downloading from IRC or usenet a SVCD copy and encod to VCD.

  4. The Movies are AVI's not Divx (in most cases) I encoded them to XVCD, I was hoping to improve the quality some, or at least not lose any.
    Thanks
