  1. I'm a real newbie to DVD burning and have a couple of questions. I have the Pioneer A05 which came with Sonic MyDVD. It did okay on my first attempt but I didn't really care for the program. My main objective is to transfer a bunch of VHS tapes to DVD. I have the Canopus ADVC-100 to do the analog to digital conversion. I have Adobe Premiere 6.0 for editing. I've purchased Ulead Movie Factory (Worshop is a little pricey for me right now) to do the authoring. My question is--since Movie Factory accepts AVI files (which is the format Premiere outputs to), do I need to use TMPEnc also? Or can I just take the edited movie from Premiere and author it with Movie Factory? Is there a benefit one way or the other? I was reading about some programs re-encoding movies which apparently can result in some loss of quality and since some of my films are older home movies, I want to keep as much quality as possible. Thanks for any suggestions.

  2. I would suggest that you try the DVDMF encoder and see how good it looks and then try TMPGenc and compare the results. Only you can say for sure what works best for you.

I used DVDMF a year ago but 1.0 was a little rough around the edges and when DVD Workshop came out I went with that and haven't looked back. Version 1.2 works well with my first generation DVD burner.

    Also,
Did you buy DVDMF 2.0? I've read that it has a vastly improved interface and more bells and whistles, that it's more like DVD Workshop.

  3. Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll burn an identical DVD and compare them. I ordered the DVDMF on ebay and have a feeling it's probably 1.0(the ad didn't say and I didn't think about different versions). I guess I'll use the upgrade option to go to 2.0 if it is 1.0. It sounds as if 2.0 is a lot better from what you say.
