Trying to get the most out of my Toshiba e740 Pocket PC and thanks to the ATI chip inside, it plays mpeg4 files great supposedly. I have every digital media editing tool known to macs.. Which is best to convert a regular mpeg1 file into mpeg4? Media Cleaner Pro 6? If so, what settings are best? (codec?)
    Thanks

Quicktime Pro should do that nicely.

  3. You do have to be careful of what type of MPEG-4 this thing supports... MPEG-4 has been known by three names now:

DivX (MSMPEG-4 alpha implementation, later mangled and improved)
    MPEG-4 (Official spec, Apple/Real supported)
    WMV8/9 (MSMPEG-4 improved by Microsoft)

MSMPEG-4 was based off an initial spec released by the MPEG-4 board back when MS wanted the board to use the ASF file format for MPEG-4. Later they took the codec and implemented it into WMV8/9. DivX was a different source of improvement upon that very same early spec.

Goto MS if you want the WMV8/9 version of MPEG-4...
Goto ffmpegX if you want the DivX version of MPEG-4...
Goto Apple if you want the MPEG-4 version of MPEG-4...

Hopefully this covers all the bases... since the reviewing populace don't seem to really know the difference between all these buggers.
Slaughtering the competition with amatuer-quality VCD authoring abilities... fear my non-l33t skillz.
