I've captured from a digital source (sky tv - uk Pal) and no matter what settings I capture I eventaully get sound and video out of sync.
I use Virtualdub to capture with the PicVideo codec (quality 18), 720 x 576.
I lowered the PicVideo quality to 15 and the format to 480 x 576 then down to 352 x 288
I'm intending to output to dvd.
The out of sync is noticable before I encode the avi with TMPGEnc.
I'm getting hardly any frame loss, can anyone assist?
    Thanks,
    Will

If you are capturing the PAL TV format, try adjusting the frame speed to exact: 24.964fps.

I am having the same problem with Huffyuv capturing on 25fps which isn't an accurate setting. The only way to fix it is to set the frames to the exact speed required for the sound to match with the video. I hope this helps.

    Hi
What software are u playing your captures back in??
If it's WMP use another one.
My captures (and a lot of my movies come to that) are out of synch when using WMP but they are fine in PowerDVD and other software.

    Thanks folks,
I'll give both suggestions a try and report back.
Unfortunately I deleted all the out of sync captures in a fit of rage so I'll do some more!
    Thanks again,
    Will

WOW! Getting into a rage won't do you any good and you could've used VirtualDub to correct the problem.

There is an area you can video process to get the sound in sync with the video and doesn’t take long to fix with file size remains the same.

    I was joking.

I don't think that fixes progressive sound issues.

The PC videos I was fixing with VirtualDub were interlaced from television. VirtualDub's processing did it fixed for me, no problem.

So, I know how to stop the video and sound out of sync during capture at the first place. Just fix the setting of the frames as exact: 24.964fps for PAL.

I tried your 24.964fps idea last night but for some reason the fps rate I was getting hovered around the 15fps mark - very strange, I must have done something wrong.
    I'll try again tonight.
Could you give me a brief walk through on the Vdub sound fix?
Do you know if it will work with mpeg's (created with TMPGEnc) without re-encoding?
    Thanks,
    Will

I know this works for me and good luck.

You visit into one of the guides on the left: http://www.vcdhelp.com/mjpeg.htm

This is the steps to correct the sound:

If the sound is out of sync

Open the captured file in Virtual Dub. Choose "Frame Rate" under the "Video" menu. Choose "Change so video and audio durations match". Before saving, make sure you have selected "Direct Stream Copy" under the video menu and Full processing mode under the audio menu.

I can't really help you with the question on whether it will work with mpeg's (created with TMPGEnc) without re-encoding? I haven't tried this one yet.

So, I hope this helps and I know not everyone gets success. Good luck.

  11. your a lengend CJGS

i ran the file through VD with change frame rate thing like you sugested and it worked!! perfect sync

i will try the 24.964 frame rate capture now to save the whole procedure

but i am curious to know..... why when i used to capture with my BT878 based card in VD i never had this problem,

now using Virtual VCR and iuVCR with my new CX23881 based card i get this out of sync problem

what does VD do that the others dont ??

or is it the immaturity of the CX23881 chipset drivers ??

I don't really know why, maybe difference apps with the default capture card drivers. Difference apps with different capture cards seemed to be the issue as well.

The bigger the resolution is the problem with the sound out of sync. So, the computer’s specs make a difference too. It must handle it.

For me, the exact frame rate only applies to huffyuy with a size of 640x480 and greater. A smaller huffyuy 352x288 is fine using 25fps.

Anyway, VirtualVCR wouldn't work for me. My comp froze and crashed and WMP wouldn't load with VirtualVCR's captured huffyuy.

  13. thanx

i tried 24.964 but it didnt make it sync,
did help thouhg, not bad, but still out after 30 mins

i guess i am going to have to run each file thru VD with the Change Frame Rate thingy

it wouldnt hurt to do that during the encoding and filtering etc ???
saves running through the file twice

and yah i never capped any higher the 352x288 in VD, so maybe if i did (installed BTwincap etc) then i might have had the same ?!?!)

PS one guy using same chipset and iuVCR said he uses 48000hz for sound, so i am trying that now....

You can try and experiment in different ways. Try another sound is a great idea. No harm in that.

Some might work for you and others may not. Good luck mate.

I'll be experimenting NTSC capturing soon. I hope problem free.

    regards

  17. i openned up some DivX files i did last year and looked at the change Frame Rate option and it says
    * No change (25.000 FPS)

then down @ change frame rate so audio and video match
    it has in brackets (25.000)

and obviously these files are sync

but i know for a fact when i captured them the frame rate wasnt 25.000 fps in the stats section,

i tried VD just then and it gives round 24.7/8 capture rate

this doesnt make sense to me

I know I am Australian; I got imported stuff from the States. They're DVD's and LD's in my collection with the normal PAL versions. The NTSC DVD’s are region 1.

I don’t have a DVD burner just yet; sometime this year I’ll get one.

    Regards
