  1. OK, I have tried them both, each work well. So depending on the guide of the day that I am following I will use one or the other.

Honestly I cannot see one being better than the other!

So what gives? Any comments on what would make one better than the other?

BTW, I get an error message when trying to write the ISO file to a disc in dvddcrypter so that is not a plus.

  2. I don't think you will get many responses to this question, because there really is no real answer. The truth is, I use whichever of the two I feel like using. If my mouse pointer is closer to the SmartRipper Icon, I use that, and vice versa. The speeds are basically identical, and as far as your write error goes with DVD Decryptor, you might want to check your media because I have NEVER gotten ANY error using the ISO write method in DVD Decryptor. If you are going to be using that ISO method more then other methods, then DVD Decryptor will be your ripper of choice, so test with other types of media.

I've heard that people occasionally run in to a DVD that one or the other won't rip. It sounds like any time one doesn't work the other does, so it's worth having both.

  4. I think DVD Decrypter is much better, and when it doesn't work (smart ripper never worked better from all those I've tried) then I turn to vStrip.

    Hi all,
In agree it is almost a user preference thing. I use for straight rip and flip under 4.38 gb [ and usually SmartRipper for my en-coding projects. I will say SmartRipper probably has a few more features than DVDdecrypter but with every release it IMPROVES and it's intuitively use of all caps for a straight rip n flip is great for.
Hope this makes a little sense, I just spent the last 36 hours rebuilding my site that was going to take 2 hours?? I'm real tired

  6. doom9 has a comparison on a variety of rippers including SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter.

In my experience, I've had a few DVDs that SmartRipper couldn't handle (scratches and the like) while DVD Decrypter was able to plough on through. I personally prefer DVD Decrypter over SmartRipper but it is mostly just a personal preference.

  7. Thanks to ALL for the replies (esp Doggiedaddy who took the extra time to look and answer my post before getting some rest!!!)

Looks like it is mostly personal preference then, I was right then. Just looking to see if I had missed something here and there.

I think I am more like 'defense' here that I will choose the one that is closer! BTW, if by some small chance that I backup a full dvd via the iso method, I will burn via Ulead DVD Movie Factory. It works there so do you still think it is a media problem??

    Again thanks to all.
