  1. Does anyone here have any experience with this unit. I am confused about a couple of things. It says mpeg2 import. Does that mean during capture or after a file has already been converted?

  3. I am looking to capture directly into mpeg2. Tired of waiting for conversions.

  4. I've not got one, but from what I can make out from the Computer Video mag review, it does not capture to MPEG2. But because it's hardware accelerated, when it does encode to MPEG2, it only takes 2-3 x RT, and the quality is excellent apparently - just a notch below CCE SP & ProCoder.

I have read that it does "MPEG2 import for re-editing of DVD projects with intelligent rendering", isn't this MPEG2 capture?

  6. The DV 500 is a DV (not DVD) capture / editing card and offline Mpeg2 encoder.

I've not used it for a while but I think I remember hearing that Premiere will now allow import of Mpeg2 files. This is probably what you're looking at. But no, you cannot capture directly to Mpeg2.

No this not Direct Realtime MPEG2 Encoder.
This card record in DV format then you have converted the clip to MPEG2 as what furball6969 just said is you have use Premiere export option in order to get realtime mpeg2 encoding so how ever long the clip is that be how long it going to take to encode it.
