  1. I am trying to convert a video from a DV camcorder to SVCD. But every time I play it on my Pioneer DVD-505 home player it has large blocks, skips, jerks, etc. The blocks are so large you can't make out what is on the screen. When played on the pc using wmp or sthsdvd it looks/sounds great. When I first started trying to convert this to SVCD I was able to get some of trial attempts to play great when increasing the Motion search to High quality (slow) in TMPGEnc. Now I can't get a decently looking picture no matter what settings I try. I have tried serveral different cd-rw, none of them work. I have downloaded a divx movie and converted it to SVCD and it plays fine on the standalone. I have not been able to find a solution on this site's forums. I must have screwed something up in my trial and error process, but I can't figure out what.

The video was captured from a Sony DV camcorder using Scenalyzer Live as Type 1 AVI via firewire. The video was then edited in Medio Studio Pro 6. Medio Studio lists the output format as:
    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    Frame-based
    Overlay track(s):3
    Microsoft AVI Files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
PCM, 32.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

I then used TMPGenc to convert to SVCD mpg using the wizard.
The wizard sets the following on the Expert Setting for Source page:
    Video Type: Interlace
Field Order: Bottom Field first (B)
    Aspect Ratio: 4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)
    Content: Video Movie

On the Video Tab, I set Rate control to CBR and Motion Search Percision to High quality(slow).

I am using TMPGEnc 2.59.47.155 and VCDEasy 1.1.3 for the conversion to SVCD.

    Thanks

  2. Well the problem appears to be with the standalone's ability to read cd-rw. I burned the same bin/cue onto a cd-r and it plays fine-no blocks or skips. Also, the standalone will read a new cd-rw the first time it is writen to. Which explains why it worked when I first started testing encoding settings and then started playing crap video. The brands of cd-rw I have tried are Verbatim and Memorex. The player seems to read cd-rw with mp3's just fine though. The DVD players manual says it can read both cd-r and cd-rw.

Is it common to have problems with cd-rw on standalones?
Could it be a problem with the way I erase the cd-rw? I am using the tools on VCDEasy to erase.

    Thanks
    Tim
