I'm wondering if anyone knows the correct adjective for when a video or even a picture is low resolution and looks like it's made up of a bunch of boxes. My Final Cut Pro user manual uses Blocky and does not explain the term, as though you're supposed to understand it because it is correct. My manager here at work uses the phrase 'it looks digitized' which I'm sure probably isn't correct because the video is already digital and even if it was 1080i HD video it would be digitized (or digital, which is the more correct term) but not look blocky. So, what is the correct term? Is there even one?

Blocky is good, compression artifacts, dct blocks, or badly encoded will also do.

Finally, if you are really at a loss for a description, just say

"Hey, it looks just like YouTube"
