  1. hey
i am trying to burn 700+MB onto a 80 min cdr using nero

i am having trouble because nero will not allow me to burn anything over 700MB even though mode2 burning is supposedly enabled......

shouldn't i be able to fit at least 800MB of mode2 data on a 80 min cdr??

anyone know what i should do?

  2. With all NERO products, under PREFERENCE, select the ADVANCE tab, check Overburn, be sure to set the size of the CD i.e. 80 min/90 min/99/min etc. When the buring is started you will see a messaage tell you, you are starign to do averburning, just answer OK and start you burn. NERO will allow overburning on all these CD's, you may have some problems depending on your hardware, some burners will not allow for overburning. I have used Richo/HP and Luck Goldstar with some success.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, you are correct, is has to be possible to burn 800 mb Mode 2 video file on a cd. Nero supports this. It depends on your CD-RW drive if Nero allows it. If your drive does not support overburn, then Nero does not (cannot) allow it.

  5. S/VCD can fit up to 800MB on an 80min CD because the video tracks are burnt in Mode2 Form2 sectors.

You cannot do this for a CD-ROM (I think) -- search for the CD FAQ with Google and read the relevant sections.

Mode2 Form1 sectors which are used for "Mode 2" CD-ROMs still only fit 700 MB for an 80min/700MB CD-ROM.

If you are making a XVCD, I think I may have found your problem, because it has been bothering me for the past few days.

when you use Tmpegenc to code your mpeg file, go to set up, and under the system tab, select "mpeg 1 video-cd non standard), the resulting file will be a few meg less than the file you have now, but now Nero will be able to read it and burn. You see Nero actually take your file and re-code them before it is burned to the CD, and if you don't have the correct setting, it may generate file that is over 800 mb, even when you know it is less than 800 mb.

With the file you already have now, just go to mpeg tool, and select "cut & merge", select "mpeg 1 video-cd non standard", you don't have to cut it, just run it and make a new file, Nero will be able to read & burn the CD without telling you the file is too big.

This has nothing to do with over-burn. Over-burn will only come into play when you are burning a file over 800 mb, and that will depend on your CD burner.

I haven't try this on a SVCD yet, but it should work the same. I think that when you open up TmpegEnc to code your file, sometimes the video format in the system tab is pre-set to the previous file you were coding, therefore, all you need to do is change it to the mpeg format you are trying to get.

I have only found this out by accident, I couldn't find anything in the guide that talk about this. I think everyone has presumed that all the settings were correct before generating the file. I found out the hard way, and wasted so much time re-coding my files.

If you are making a VCD compliant file, not XVCD, and your file is under 800 mb, Nero should be able to burn it. If not, then it is another problem I don't know about.

At this moment, I am burning a file that is 782 mb. Before I found this out, Nero was telling me the file is too big. When I did what I just described above, Tmpegenc recode the file, and the file became 780 mb, and Nero coded with no problem.

Hope this will help. Let me know if it works for you.

  9. do some dvd players not support mode 2?????

  10. Actually, the importance of correctly multiplexing your MPEG clips has been posted many many times... If you are using TMPGEnc and you are making an XVCD clip, then you must multiplex it with the "MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard)" setting. If you set this in the template itself (the stream type) you won't need to do this.

v2.59 seems to have muxing problems so I recommend that you stick to v2.58 for now.

If you search for "bloating" or "auto-padding" you will find more hits on this issue.

do some dvd players not support mode 2?????
This question is out of context. ALL DVD players support MODE2 sectors if they support VCD or SVCD -- simply because you can't actually make a S/VCD that doesn't use this sector type.
