  1. When I have to reencode a DVD to back it up to one disk I use the Guide for dummies instructions. I Rip then use TMPGenc to reencode the video. One thing I've noticed and I am thinking maybe it's an improperly set flag or something, when I Do 2.35 Wide movies and play them back on my 4:3 TV the letterboxing is off, it's more like a 1:85 ratio film. On my Widescreen set it looks fine. If I play the original in the 4:3 set it too is also at the correct ratio. So it's not a setting of the player even thou I tried all the settings.

    Any tips appreciated.

  2. When I first got into this, I had the same problem doing WS movies. I own both a WS TV and a Normal TV and I wanted to make sure they played back perfectly on both.

After reading alot of messages and asking alot of questions, the solution was for me to use IfoEdit to tweak the .ifo files before I burned the DVD

If you open up the .ifo file with IfoEdit and then change the movie ratio to 16:9 and select the Force Letterbox selection

This will show perfectly on your WS TV and then force itself into a perfect letterbox on your 4:3 TV

Exactly, after you author it, just before you burn it

Some mistakes that I have made so you do not do the same thing When you open up the .ifo file you will see both a selection for the Menu and the Movie. Just do the movie I did the menu once and it really messed up my buttons. (if you created a movie)

Just to make sure, I have always opened up both the Video_TS.ifo and the vts_1.ifo (and any others if you are doing multiple episodes) and made the changes. I think you only need to do the vts one but it has never hurt me to do both
