  1. I have a JVC XV-523, got it in december of 2000. It now has stopped working. It powers on, and when I put a disc in it just says "no disc". I took the cover off just to look at it and there is no visible damage, doesn't look like it went up in smoke or that anything is clearly broken. When the cover is off and I put a disc in I can see the tray works fine, but the disc never spins. So it looks like there is a problem with the motor that spins the disc possibly?

Doesn't look like anything I can fix but I was wondering about having it fixed, anyone had a dvd player fixed? If it is more than say $60 to fix it I would rather just buy a new one but I am not employed now so my budget is somewhat restricted. What do you guys think? Fixable? worth trying? It's a really nice player and if I got a replacement I would probably want an equally good one, but also one that plays SVCDs. Could it still be under warranty after 2 years? JVC's site produced no info on this player at all.

What would you recommend for a replacement? Ideally it should play VCD, xVCD, SVCD flawlessly. Mine has a zoom in feature that lets you see things close up which is pretty cool and it has a nice display. I have been thinking of one of those cheap apex players but I want something with nice features. I can't spend more than $150 on it.

  2. My Apex AD-1100W is doing something similar right now, if you play with it a while it will play, but, i will probebly end up buying a new dvd player in the end, unless someone replies to this mesage with some working advice.

  5. Anyone want to recommend a high quality dvd player that is good with all the formats and media? I am having a hard time. Was looking at the Phillips DVD 724, but then I saw a few negative comments. Needs to read burned cds and dvds(DVD-R or DVD+R is a little confusing, whatever the pioneer drives use I forget), vcd(and xvcd is a plus I have lots of VCDs with higher bitrate and/or resolution), svcds.
