  1. There were some video tapes recorded of a school show back in 2007, and I only recently discovered that a friend still has them. When I played back all three of the JVC dvm60 tapes on my friend's Panasonic NG-GS35 camcorder, there was barely any audible audio and lots of static bouncing in and out. The image sometimes stops in horizontal lines and continues to play in the other portions of the image. The tapes were not originally recorded on this camera.
If someone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

It would seem that the tapes have become oxidized, else they were well used. Did you friend have this problem watching them after they were taken originally? Whereas it is true maybe the camera may be at fault, you may still try to import them to a computer and see if the same problem ocurs.

  3. Yes, importing them to a computer or DVD Recorder has the same difficulties. The blips and audio static always occur in slightly different spots each time, so I don't think the audio track itself carries the static. Does that still sound like oxidisation? My friend isn't the one who recorded it so I have to find that person to see if there was a problem originally.

At first glance it would seem that way. Another alternative is that the recording heads in the other video camera, or yours, are slightly misaligned. This error has been known to occur on floppy drives where it would readable on the initial recording device, but not on another.
