  1. posted a question on dec 30th - was looking for some help

96 people viewed my post and not one offered any help - I thought forums where the place to get some assistance

obviously there are more people in search of knowledge like myself and fewer enlightened people to assist

I don't use Premier but looked around here and found the following pages that might help regarding your other post.

Look at the "export" section and compare your settings to the ones shown here..
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/92223.php#export

Don't use Nero's encoder it's awful, use TMPGEnc.
Export the Premier file to an AVI and use TMPGEnc's project wizard to convert to your choice of VCD, SVCD or DVD then use Nero to burn..

Use the TMPGENc guides located here..
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm (VCD)
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencsvcd.htm (SVCD)
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm (DVD)

Hope some of these help out.
    Rick

wow, harsh. where is the love? It might help if within this posting you included a link to your 'unanswered' previous post -- we have no idea to which post you refer and it would be a polite gesture not to make us go searching for it

96 views does not necessarily mean discrete hits.

I have had far more enlightened people help me on this site --who by the way have no obligation to do so -- than I ever hoped for or imagined. Give them more time than 4 days. Half these folks (including myself) are still recovering from New Years. Most of my questions are answered within 7 days --some faster, some longer

"1234 posts posted in 464 active topics from previous 1 day(s)." --That factoid is from 03, Jan 02 VCDHelp.com so in one day there have been over 1200 other questions/comments posted -- which is quite a lot for all those 'enlightened' people to get to. I'm not being condescending, just applying some zen --Good luck and give it time
It's not about getting what you want, it's wanting what you've got

  4. SFAIK, SVCD does NOT support widescreen formats. You have to manually letterbox the video.

  5. sorry people - was not my intent to sound condescending - simply trying to get some help - now I have that so maybe there was a method to my madness

    anyways,

Nelson37 seems closer to understanding my problem - so please tell me how to letterbox (sounds like that's what I want to do to simulate the widescreen effect in order to get the full view of my home movies with no aspect distortions) - what software should I use to get the letterbox effect on my svcd - will nero burn the letterbox on the svcd - and any directions to guides on the net addressing this particular issue would be most helpful

Thanks all, for taking the time to respond

  6. Say your video is actually 480 X 480, with the video itself being 480 x 360. That means there is a 60 pixel border top and bottom. Using AVISYNTH, the command would be LetterBox(60, 60). This would just make sure the 60 pixel border is pure black. Now if the movie is really 480 x 360, and the black borders are not present, then the command would be AddBorder(0,60,0,60). This actually ADDS the 60 pixel border to the movie, making it 480x480.

Using VDUB, on the resize filter, there is a Resize and add borders, using the above numbers you would put 480 x 360 in the top, check the box for resize and add borders, and fill in 480 x 480.

Most software has similar function, some will Overwrite your video with the borders, some will Add the borders, it depends on what you start with.
SVCD does not allow for the different aspect ratios, or at least if it does most players will not handle it correctly, SFAIK. That's why you have to manually do it.

Burning software does not know or care about the borders. Just make sure you arrive at an acceptable resolution.

Borders should be in multiples of 16 for best encoder efficiency, otherwise the line between video and border is treated as a sharp edge. If increments of 16 are used this problem is avoided, so in the above example I would make the borders each 64, you lose 4 pixels top and bottom, BFD.

  7. Thanks loads Nelson37

That's exactly the information I'm looking for - I looking to make my svcd look like a widescreen tv 16:9 but on a regular tv 4:3 so I can get the entire width of my home movies to show up

Still somewhat new to video, and will definitely look into and read up on both AVISYNTH and VDUB

Thanks pal - really appreciate the help - now I'm heading in the right direction- and if I can help you out in anyway other than video in the future, feel free to ask
