  1. I notice when I am creating folders within folder for picture files (each folder is a different event), each folder has different VIEW types. Sometimes it is "thumbnails", sometimes it is "tiles" (other is "icons" and "list"). It is as if Windows does it randomly. Anyone know how it sets up VIEW style?

I don't have XP running at the moment but in Explorer Folder Properties there is a setting that says something like "Make all folders like current folder". It takes effect after restarting Windows.

  3. Without having this checked, it is random?

I fired up an XP computer.

Set the view the way you want.
Then under Tools, Folder Options, View, Folder Views
    select "Apply to all folders"

    Then restart Windows XP.

  5. edDV, so when I click this, it will just apply whatever VIEW I currently have (thumbnails) to all the folders?

Do you know how Windows decides without doing this? It seems random.

It's not random. Windows looks at the contents of the folder and decides which view to use. Unless you override that behavior.

Besides, even when you apply your chosen setting to "All Folders",
if you decide to view the folder XYZ as "icons" for example,
then the OS will keep displaying XYZ in the "icons" mode,
    overriding the related global setting.

If you turn off "Remember each folder's view settings" the view will revert back to the global default each time you go to the folder.

I ask this is because my picture folders have "thumbnails" while others have "tile". It only uses these two, not "list" or "icon". These are all picture files so I'm trying to see how it decides what to use.
