  1. I bought the SONY DRU-500a DVD burner 5 days ago.
I've set the region code and upgraded the firmware to 1.0f.
I used Nero to burn the DVD Video on a blank DVD-R(about US$1 per piece)!
Burning was succesful! The disc can be played back on my DVD player and the other DVD ROM,but cannot be played back on the DRU-500a!
It tryed to read the disc but failed and showed "no disc" on the drive!
If I burned data(not video) on the same brand of blank dvd-r, the DRU-500a can read the disc(its contents are data) so smoothly!

Is there something wrong?? The DRU-500a or this brand of blank dvd-r??

Thanks for your answers in advance and forgive my poor English!

I mentioned this in the first post,so the problem is nothing to do with the region code.

I have the EXACT same problem with the dru500a. I am using Princo
DVD-R and they burn fine. Ply back in my dell notebook and even play back fine in my home dvd player. But fot the life of me I cant get the dru500a to play them back!!

This has been going on for 2 weeks and I cant figure out the problem. I just reformated and installed a new mother board cpu and memory that didnt help either. To be honest I knew it wasnt going to. I'm outta ideas if you fix it PLEASE let me know. I also have my region code set to 1.

  5. while we are on the topic of burners not being able to read their burned disks, i have a pioneer dvr-105 and it too cannot read the princo dvd-rw disk that it successfully burned. the dvd-rw reads okay on a regular dvd-rom drive and on a dvd-player, but it cannot be mounted on the dvr-105.

i wonder, could this actually be a media problem? (dvd-r and dvd-rw)?

  6. I know that you said that you have done this but just to be sure post your settings:

    1. DVD burner region

WinXPHome - Control Panel / Performance and Maintance / System / Hardware / Device Manager / DVD/CD-ROM drive / Properties / DVD Region / Current Region

in my case I have it set to "Region 1"

    2. burned DVD

    DVD Decrypter

right bellow "Label" you can see filed call "Region" what do you see there ?

in my case I see Region: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

    It's a bug in Nero 5.5.10.0.

In my case right after burning NO APP can read the dvd that I just made. So I cant tell you what it says.

But get this update: I just bought a DVD Rom drive and all the burns that I made on Princo media all play fine. Odd isnt it? Seems really odd to me. Any input would be great.

  10. braz71, you can still check setting of your burner and you can check DVD in your new DVD-ROM. If you are still interested in solving this issue. Oopps ! It was not originaly your post... But still...

  11. I have the same problem and I ask around in the forums and someone told me its a media problem. Mostly likely due to cheap media, so youdon't have to worry about the drive. i burn 25 disc so far which some can be read by the sony and some can't. If you want sony read the disc try another media brand...

    Hope this helps....

  12. I tryed the SONY and Ritek DVD-Rs this time!
It's OK! Dru-500a can read them well!
But I still called the dealer(Taiwan) and told them this problem, they want me to send the drive back to them to check it!
Today they called me and said they will send me a new drive!
That's all! Thanks for all valuable opinions!

  13. A new drive will not fix this problem. The Fault is the firmware. 1.0f does not like Princo RW's. They will burn, but not read.
1.0d firmware writes and reads Princo disks perfectly.
Has Anyone tried 1.0e firmware with Princo RW's?

  14. I have not installed the 1.0e firmware I thought that was taken down. I am running 1.0f. I just ordered a test pack so when I get them I will post my results. Im sure I will end up buying Riteks.

    vincentlin,

They are sending u another drive just like that? U dont have to send yours in to be tested?
