I have been wanting to know if anyone has had any luck capturing directly on their PC from a DVD in the DVD Rom drive? I mean direct capturing of clips/segments off the DVD to say an .avi file or mpeg? Obviously you can rip the whole DVD, etc., but I want just want to capture small specific clips from some DVD's (not the entire thing). I know you can plug a DVD player into a capture card and try it this way (although copy protection usually interferes). There are a couple of pieces of software that will capture what's on the PC screen to video, but I think you lose the sound this way. If anyone has some suggestions about this, please reply. Thanks!

The way I capture just a small clip is to use SmartRipper, find the chapter that the clip is on, and rip that chapter. Then I use DVD2AVI 2 frameserve that chapter and extract the audio. Then I use TMPG to convert it to select the beginning and ending points and convert it to avi.
