  1. hi i wonder if anyone could help me . i have downloaded a movie .avi file and windows media player will not play it. something about a compressor.
    can anyone advise me what i need to do.

    I guess you need some codecs.......... like: divx 3/4/5, Xvid, Nimo pack.

    In the end......you might need 'm all. Download the little programm called " Gspot" ; it tells you exactly what codec is needed! I recommend also Ffdshow; pretty good for encoding Xvid files. Check the tools section.

    Download XviD codec and Nimo V5 codec and install both.

    If you then want to convert the avi file into MPEG1/MPEG2/SVCD have a look at the following reference thread that will help you a lot, helped me loads when i wanted to convert a xvid myself
