  1. Hi, I have downloaded clips I get from a website, and they are in .divx format,
PLEASE let me know if there is a software program that will let me convert these
    files to .avi

Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you!

  2. Hi-

They should already be AVI. Just rename the extension as .avi. If there's any chapter information in there, you'll lose it, but who cares?

Open the file in virtualdub, then do a direct stream copy to put it into an avi container.

Won't players usually just ignore the Ultra features of the video, though (assuming they don't support DivX 6/Ultra features)? If that's the case, streaming into a new AVI when it already is an AVI might just be an extra step.

  6. You may have problems with .divx files with menus and multiple titles. Renaming to .avi may only allow a player to see the first title. Remuxing with VirtualDub has the same problem.

My brother has a couple of players that won't see files with the .divx extension, but handle them happily after a run through virtualdub, however these don't have any ultra features.

  8. Thanks guys for the suggestions, I've tried virtualdub and it crashes,
I've also tried changing the extension to .avi and no luck, even tried
re-encoding it and burning file to dvd with adobe premiere elements,
and adobe did re-encode it, but the final result was just a black screen.

I think the reason it is so difficult is because there is probably some type
of drm protection in those clips. Does anyone know how I can convert this
.divx file so I can play it on a stand alone dvd player? I paid a lot of money
to get these video clips, I sure would be nice to watch them in my
living room for my own personal use! Please help!

wow joined in 2003 and only 4 posts. talk about a communication lag lol..

I dont think that its DRM unless you had to download a license for it to play. search for divxtodvd programs. divx makes one

i just found this but the link is only good for a day or so. so i hope you see it before its over.
