  1. when i try to load an mpg as a vcd to make a menu it keeps saying its non-compliant (which it is). Is it possible to make menus from non-compliant mpegs? Ive started playing with the kvcd templates so am i going to have to find something else to do my menus or is there actually a way to make this ulead software work?

Try the KVCD LBR template, which is 352x240 with a MAX bit rate of 1,150 (just like a VCD). This is the only template that could probably be used, because it's very close to VCD. Even VCDEasy reads it as a compliant VCD file. So you can try that.

  4. I tried the kvcd LBR 352x288 template. Unfortunately it seems movie factory wont bend on its demand for a compliant MPEG because it wouldnt load that file either Such a shame too because it would be quite a useful program if not for that limitation.

I've been using ulead DVD movie factory for about a year and have had no problems with having it accept my xvcd/xsvcd/cvd. The bitrate has never been a problem for me. The resolutions is where Ulead is a little more picky. Any bitrate "should" work as long as it has a 352x240 resolution for vcd. At least it did for me. Even the 352x480 worked. I believe I used the SVCD radial button in the first section and imported it that way. Which seems odd because that is a DVD spec.

Where a problem may arise is if your resolution is 352x240 and the VCD button is selected with an mpeg2 file instead of mpeg1. Just a hunch.

Have you checked the bitrate of the audio to see if it's 44100HZ. Also if the mpeg has no audio it might reject it.
