  1. Hi there!

I was hoping I could get some help!
    I am using powerdvd
When I was running win98se all my svcd's played perfectly but now I can only play svcd's from my hard disk.
Even older disks from before the OS change don't play.
I get a green screen and screeky sound.
All other media types play fine.
I tried wmp7.1, elcard player, all the same effect.
I installed the latest nimo codec pack, mpeg2 codec etc.
I tried copying the .mpg file back to te hard disk but then the file was not playable either.
Switching the hardware accelleration on and off did not change anything.
    Please help me
    Thanks a lot

  2. Hi Again!

I have burnt a cd with the joliet option off and now the disc plays ok!
To bad all my disks are joliet.
So my question now is how do I make powerdvd accept joliet file system disks?

    Thanks for the help!

What did you use to create a SVCD with a Joliet file system? AFAIK, (S)VCD players don't use the file system at all - they just read the sectors they are told where to find the video?!?

  4. I just burnt the disks with nero, option svcd and selected on the tab 'iso' the option Joliet
But from the fact that in win98 there was no problem playing disks with joliet 'on' I conclude that it must be possible to play them in win2000 as well.
Must be some setting that I don't know of
    or some codec or driver.
    thanks for any help

Sounds like your in Codec hell. However, you said you 'upgraded'? If you upgraded 98SE to W2K, you have some work to do.

First off, 98 and W2K do things differently. They both are 32 bit windows systems, but they don't work the same way. First off, un-install all your codecs. Every stinking one you can find. Un-instally powerdvd and uninstall WMP 7.1.

    REBOOT

Now, re-install powerdvd( 4.x is current I believe). Check your version, some older versions are not W2K/XP compatible. See if the disk plays. If it doesn't play, then you've been 'codecec'. Try formating and installing W2K from scratch.

You can start re-adding codecs as needed. What seems to have happened is you have installed a non-compatible MPEG2 codec. Joliet disks shouldn't matter to W2K/98.
