  1. Going through DVD/SVCD/CD authoring software, I've seen MANY references to disc with capacities of 740mb and even 100min/800mb discs. I'd never heard of these, and a trip to Microcenter comfirmed that they're not a common commodity I'd just never noticed. How are these sizes possible? If they're out there, I want them!

    is it just overburn?

When authoring a VCD or SVCD you burn in mode2 and you are able to burn 800MB on an 700mb/80min cd. You can overburn safely to approx 815MB

  3. Thanks for the answer. I actually just found this in another post. I should have read a little more thoroughly I guess!

Also, in order to fit that much data on a disc, does it have to be a BIN/CUE image from a Vcd authoring program, or will just sticking your mpeg in Nero work?

And if you can get 740mb on a 74min disc, and 800mb on an 80min disc, what are these 90 and 99min discs that Nero and DVD2SVCD talk about? After a thourogh sortie at Microcenter, I didn't see a single disc of about 100 different kinds that advertised over 80min.

Those higher minute discs are not as popular and are not as widely compatible as the 80min discs. To burn VCD in nero you can use the wizard and create a new cd , Video CD. then just drag your mpg file over and it will check the file and then you can hit burn.
