  1. Ok I finally got my dru500a and its burning fine with out many problems. As per this fourm I have installed the 1.0f firmware as soon as the drive came. Now.....

I bought a 50pack of Princo from http://allmediaoutlet.com/P-DVDR-4.7-GENPrinco.html these dvd-r are shinny white in the top and purple on the bottom. They burn fine only made 1 coaster the dvd's all play in my home sony unit and my Dell laptop. BUT I cant get my 500a to play back these dvd-r for the life of me. I also made a data backup 4.3 gigs and that wont play back either.

All thoughts would be great tks in advance.

  2. What about this info from Sony's web ?

You will not be able to view a region free disc(DVD's you record yourself are region free), until a region code has been set by viewing a manufactured DVD disc that has a region code setting. Please download and review the Region code notice.

  3. donpedro,

I very well guess that could be the problem but I doubt it. I have other media that plays back fine TDK, dvd+RW all play back fine after making a backup of a dvd. Do you have a link of what I need to dl and install to test if so that would be great.

    tks

  4. Hmm, no idea why they're not playing back for you in the 500a. I bought 50 princos from that link also and I don't have any problem with movies I've authored via Ulead DVD Workshop or playing back movies I've backed up via DVDXCopy (using Nero burning).

  5. I dont know but either its to odd. The 500a will burn to it without a problem never at 2x thou.

As soon as I fire up power dvd to play back my backup I get a error No Disk In Drive. I'm out of ideas.

  6. Braz,

first make sure a region code is set for your drive (open My Computer, rightclick on the Sony - Properties, tab "Hardware", click from the list click the Sony again, click the button Properties, tab "DVD Region", look for "Current Region:").

Are you able to play original/presssed (i.e. region protected) DVD titles on the Sony?

If the answer to both is yes, I'd be interested to see a ADVDInfo dump of your Princo DVD-Rs (search for ADVDInfo on this forum).

  9. Braz,

    for DVD-R you need to select "0E - Pre-Recorded Information in Lead-in".

As I already said in another post, the Princo-made Bulkpaq Gen.4 2x-speed DVD-Rs that wouldnt work at all with the 1.0f firmware do work fine (at 2x speed) ever since I downgraded to 1.0d firmware.

I haven't tried 1.0e but the differences with 1.0f are minimal if you do a binary compare.

I have the same problems with the Princo DVD-RW discs. I think my problem involves Nero 5.5.9.17.0, as I have been able to read discs burned with other software. See my posts regarding this matter.

I do not have Stomp Record so I do not know if I will have the same problem with that software. I have successfully used Easy CD Creator 5.3.2.34 to write and read data off of Princo DVD-RW's, and DVD-Decrypter to write a DVD-video image file created with Imgtools 0.89 and view that video with the DRU-500A.

I have not tried Nero 5.5.10.0. Perhaps that might work better?
