I tried both Nero and Tmpeg for opening and encoding to vcd my divx movie files downloaded from Kazaa. I get the same message with both programs, file format not recognized or authorized. Ive got the 5.0 codec in the divx bundle player I downloaded and installed. The player plays the movies but nero or tmpeg won't open them for encoding to vcd. HELP.
this whole movie thing is lost if I can't do this. I'm running win 2000 pro, 15 gig HD, 256 ram, 550 cpu.

If you played the movie and it's OK. That's not a fake.
Try change the directshow reader priority, in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and reopen the video. -
Iv'e tried all these things mentioned and nothing seems to work. The movies play in Divx but I can't open them anywhere else but in virtual dub and I'm not sure if that can or will help me. I don't think so, because you can't re-encode in virtual dub.

if you can open it in virtual dub all you have to do is frameserve it to tmpgenc for encoding
