  1. Hi there---

I am just learning to make vcd's. I downloaded a movie from Grokster which is an .avi at 684,210KB. That should fit on a 80min. 700MB CD-R
When I encode it in Nero or TMPEG it comes out larger and cannot fit on my CD-R. I have read just about everything I can in your help colums and either I am doing something wrong or I am confused. Any help would be appreciated.

OK Thanks, but I am still lost. Does that mean I cannot do it? Or is there a way to convert it?

after conversion you will need to cut your mpeg into 2 parts. and the movie will be on 2 cd's. follow the guides and it will walk you through it

1:30 min. I also have one at 1:10, 1:57,1:56. My cd writer does not support 90 min, cd's.

  6. Standard vcd is supposed to be on a time basis, so if the cdr holds 80 mins then you can put 80 mins onto it. In practice Im not sure how accurate it is, but it seems to Me based on that theres only one movie there the 1:10 one that would fit onto an 80 min cdr.

Thanks alot for all the help. I kinda figured the movies are too long. I have gotten them on two cd's. Was just trying to see if I could get them on one.

Thanks again for all the help. Maybe Santa will bring me a dvd burner for x-mas.

  8. fitting a movie onto one cd is very possible , there is a quality sacrafice which is a draw back unfortunately though.

try having a look at this guide here,
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/84759.php

You are using an avi source so ignore the part about ripping the dvd, and skip down the page to the point where it tells you how to set up TMPGEnc to encode your movie to one cd.

Another option which is popular is the use of DVD2SVCD its pretty much the closest you will get to a all in one setup.

    ciao

I tried that several times and couldn't get that to work. Don't know if I had the settings right or not. Tried it with a few different settings and it still would not work. Even tried it with the 87 minute movie and couldn't do it, so I gave up and burned it on two cd's.
