Too long of a burn time on DRU500a?

I have a question, what should I expect on a burntime for around 4-4.5
gig of data on a Nero DVD-r 1x burn?

It took like an hour and 25 minutes at 1x to burn 4.2 for me.

On some maxel 1x media. I have been using mostly 2.4x +r media.

Is something up with my drive? Or is that normal time?

I was running 1.0d on my DRU500A drive, under windows 98 running newest version of Nero.

Now I got the drive on an XP box and am going to pickup another dvd-r media untill my cheap media arives to test again.

Ok, here are my results. 4153MB of data burned in 28 min 43 sec using a 2x DVD-R disk and Nero. Firmware revision 1.0f.

Thanks, going to pick up a different brand DVD-R tonight to test, I got cheapo media coming but onlyhave a day left on my drives return.

It must be the media or burning under 98 that was causing it. Since the Disc played fine and my 2.4 media burns at proper speed.

What burning app did you use?

What brand 2x -R media do you use edthesped? I can only find 2x listed minus media online, in stores here I havent found anything stating 2x yet. For -R format.

Found some cheapo DVD-R media locally..

Now with version F of the firmware it shows up as I can burn it at 2x!?

Does this new version of the firmware allow us to try burning ANY DVD-R media at 2x? Has anyone else tried -R media and gets 2x now as an option in Nero?

I am trying 1x first to see how it goes time wise, it already looks like its doing it quicker then when I burned under 98.

Then I am going to try doing a movie at 2x and see if it works.

I used the 2x DVD-R's from allmediaoutlet.com and they are definately burning at 2x. The +R/RW's all burned at 2.4X and allmediaoutlets -R burns at 2X. Only the Memorex -RW's only burn at 1X for me.

Under Windows XP I was getting proper 1x burn speed with the cheapo media.

Only wasnt working with Nero!? so tried Gear and worked great.

Going to try RecordNow Max 4.5 soon.

try veryyyyy cheap media...like sentinel (ever heard?) and it record's at 2X...greaaaaaaaattttt...and even better...it plays tooo in my standalone DVD player SONY NS405...work's great!!!
