  1. Apart from the issues I have playing any of the VCDs I burned on my standalone player (quality issues) I am unable to play any burned VCDs or SVCDs in Windows. I am running XP and have tried WinDVD, PowerDVD, and WMP 9. I read thru all the FAQs and tried all of the suggestions to no avail. When I try to play the .dat file in WMP it just sits there and never does anything. When I load the burned CD-RW into my PC-DVD player and open WinDVD or PowerDVD it does recognize that I have inserted a VCD or SVCD(shows it on the display) but after I hit play nothing ever happens. I am at my wits end! any ideas?

  2. Update:

I tried with a CD-R and it works with that media but not CD-RW. Anyone know if the Creative Encore PC-DVD supports CD-RW burned media?

  3. Another update:

Using memorex 4x cd-rw media, I can burn at 4x and playback sucessfully. When I do this, WinDVD reports the file type as MPEG.

Using Samsung 16x cd-rw media, I can burn at 16x but not playback successfully. Nothing happens in WinDVD, but the file type is reported as SVCD?!??

  4. I am just making my first SVCD's and am having a similar problem - Power DVD reports it does not recognise the format.

    No problems however with VCD's.

PowerDVD will play the raw MPG2 footage no problem prior to creating SVCD.

I am burning on CD-RW quite sucessfully. Although I et my burn speed t 10x looking at the log, it seems it is only being burnt at 4x.

I am using VCDEasy - could it be something I am configuring wrong?

Generally I have found the slower u burn your disks the better the results.

CD-RW's are a bit tempremental in my standalone player too.

  7. cyclejim,

I think it's quite common for CD/DVD drivers to have trouble playing certain brand discs - my liteon had problems but liteon have released several firmware updates which cured the problem. I had a quick look on creative's download site but found no firmware updates for your drive. Might be worth emailing their tech support to find out if they are releasing new firmware to fix this.

    Cheers,

    Scott
