New to conversions and using TMPGen, making a SVCD and for 80 min
CDR the conversion is taking almost 2 hours. Is this normal?

ya that seems just about right. normally when i encode something it take 2 hours to do 1 hour movie for example.

I think it depends on your system and if you set TMPGenc for any filtering. More filters=more time. Some filters increase conversion time dramatically.
On my system (1.6 GHz Athlon) with no filters, conversion time is approx. 1:1, or 1 hour of video takes 1 hour to convert (give or take)."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa
