I have the OEM version of Nero Vision Express and an ATI AIW Pro 128. Note that this is the "express" only version. Nero Vision is NOT installed (this came with my burner). I do have the DVD encoder plugin.

I can't select the ATI board as a capture source, unless my 1394 camcorder is also connected and powered on. The capture selection option from Nero is greyed out until I ALSO have the 1394 device active. Then the capture selection is ungreyed, and either device is available for selection. I have MMC 7.1 installed, on a Win ME system. While the selection is greyed out, the capture screen is titled "Rage Theatre" or something similar. This would seem to indicate that it knows the ATI card is there, but it won't display anything from it until the 1394 is also available. Any one have any guesses on what is going on here?

Once the ATI is selected, the resulting capture is NOT good. The frame rate seems to be sub 5 FPS, and the audio is way out of sync. Using the MMC capture results in acceptable captures on the same setup. Do I need to select a different encoding setup in MMC BEFORE attempting the capture from Nero? I am guessing that Nero will capture with whatever was last setup in the MMC application?? In this case, it was 720x480 DVD compliant video with NON-compliant 44.1 Khz audio (wish they would allow 48 Khz!).

I can capture to disk using MMC, and then import this into Nero, but it would be nice have just a single step if possible. The Nero DVD encoder seems promising so far, much better then MyDVD.

Related question: Can the newer MMC 7.6/7 be used on the AIW 128 Pro card? the latest supported release stops at 7.1 from ATI's web site. Maybe the Nero Vision Express is having trouble with this older 7.1 MMC I have?
