  1. Hello from a new user of Video Help,

Well, at least havcenot been here in a long time.

I have an AVI from download made from a VHS tape captured to file.

I have no informartion on the board or program used to capture.

The file size is 788 mb-- just alittle over a standard size.

the only tool I know how to use to author to dvd is Nero Vision Express.

I've used this program successfully for many jobs but this current piece
    won't run in anything.

It plays in a player and I managed to get the avi transfered to disk in it's
    native format.

But the transcoding task in NVE (Nero Vision Express) hangs when it goes to
burn. Either there is some sort of end of file marker problem or there is a bit
of bad data. NVE starts to count up after the transcode process like it can't find the
    burn routine.

I've also tried to reduce the file size with AVI Recomp. This hung up at something called 89%.
It just wouldn't budge after that.

Are there any ways to massage this file to get it to go into NVE?

What alternative freeware packages could be used to make a dvd with a title page for
    regular players?

Try scan the avi for errors with Virtualdub, video->scan video for errors.

  3. Thanks Baldrick. I have Virtual Dub but never got it to do the right thing.

    Maybe scan will go easier.

Another detail about the file is that first download failed as 'broken avi.' Next one I did seems to be complete
but is still giving there error described. This is very uncommon for me to have file problems. The video tools usually work very well.

  4. Wow,

I'm getting the same pokey response from Virtual Dub that I've been getting from Nero Vision Express.
I thought it was unique to that program.

No one has been able to say why a file lookup takes a long time. The file lookup takes about 20 minutes!

Something is broken but I have reinstalled the programs that were giving the Error:
Nero, Nero VE and the Windows 2000 operating system. Now Virtual Dub is giving the same slow response
like something is not responding-- but no error issued.

Has anyone here encountered this 'program not responding' error at VideoHelp?

    I'm stumped.
