Out of interest I wanted to ask if there is really a visible difference (keyword capturing) if one would use these, often called professional, gold-plated composite leads?

  3. i'd guess no. the quality of the cable itself can matter in terms of picking up interference, but that's mostly shielding. also make sure it's a 75 ohm cable, not a cheap audio cable. video signals are higher bandwidth and have some ghosting/reflection effects if the impedance is wrong. if you're running it through several components (e.g. antenna signal-> vcr composite-> receiver -> computer) it could make a difference, but even then i wouldn't bet too heavily on that. but using a double-shielded 75 ohm cable might. but if you can get them for like $1 more than a regular one, i suppose it couldn't hurt. http://www.allelectronics.com has some 3xRCA gold, one of which is a decent video cable, 6' long, for about $4. have i noticed a difference in quality from my vcr signal since i got those? no, but they did simplify the mess of wires behind my entertainment center.

  4. I agree, just get a quality cable and don't worry if it's got gold connectors. The advantage of the plating is probably just resistance to corrosion.
