  1. I was thinking of buying an AverTV Stereo card to capture from analog to digital. Now, I need to know if ill be able to capture straight to mpeg2 with my computer. I have a Duron 850 MHz, 320 MB RAM, 20 GB HD (10GB Free). I know, this is some pretty old stuff, but i gotta deal with what i got. Any ideas? Will it be possible? I dont have a HUGE hard drive, so I want to go straight to mpeg2, because i dont think ill have enough space to fit a raw avi file.

  2. or you could just use mjpeg instead. I cap 352x480 and I get around 4 gigs/hr. I don't bother recording higher since my tv quality is not that high. Also remember that using mpeg1/2 it will be difficult to cut out commercials since the keyframes are spaced by a couple of seconds.

  3. Hmm...4 gigs/hr sounds pretty good. Then I can edit, then encode the final to mpeg2 and burn as svcd? But, ill need to capture at 480x480 then.
Im mostly going to be capturing from my VCR and 8mm Sony camera.

or just make a cvd at 352x480 instead. Most dvd players that play svcds can play cvds. I get decent quality going this route.
