  1. What is the largest screen resolution you can achieve when capturing video? I'm trying to convert my VHS tapes to VCD format (DVD later on after I get a DVD burner).

I bought Dazzle Multimedia's Digital Video Capture 100 yesterday and it was only able to capture a resolution of 480x480 for VCDs and 720 x 480 for DVDs. When previewing my captured video it was destorted because of the resolution it produced. I didn't bother burning it as that tiny image would have been lost on my 27" TV screen. I ended up returning the piece of junk to the store because the software was useless as well (in terms of editing).

Anyway...I'd hate to sink a lot of money into equipment only to find out I can only convert to a tiny 480 x 480 resolution. Or maybe it was just this software that captured at that size? Any help or insight is GREATLY appreciated!

  2. 720 x 480 tiny ?. That is DVD resolution, you dont get any higher unless you are talking about HDTV. 480x480 is SVCD resolution and should look very good on a TV set, if encoded correctly. If you are capturing from VHS there is not much point in going above 352x480 anyway as the source doesn't warrant any higher.
