  1. when i opened my .avi file to cut, virtual dub gave me this message:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)

VirtualDub required a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

i have a funny feeling this means i don't have the right codec, but this video played fine in windows media player and the divx playa

You should also mention codecs you yourself loaded. Mainly, I am looking for the Nimo Codec you loaded.
    Hello.

  3. Don't know if this helps but...

    DX50 is DivX MPEG-4 version 5 http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/

See www.fourcc.org for information on fourcc id's.

Which version of directx do you have, you need version 5 by the sound of it.

  4. ok, all the codecs i have are the nimmo pack v5.0, and the latest divx. along with any codecs that windows media player updates all on it's own. as i mentioned before, this movie can play fine on windows media player and the divx playa, so it's gotta be something wrong with one of the codecs i have. it sounds like that codec is incomplete or needs to have a certain component that virtual dub needs.
