I found solusion for SONY DRU-500a problem with CD-R media

I just got my DRU-500A last Friday, and I already burn 15 DVD-RW
and DVD+RW w/o any problem (sony DVD-RW, sony DVD+RW
memorex DVD-RW and DVD+RW), never try DVD-R and DVD+R yet.
I do not see any one here talking about burning CD-R media, so I use sony drive try to burn CD-R.

I list problem below to see if any one else had the same problem with me, and any people here can figure out how to solve the problem(ex: change burn speed, wait for new firware, or return the unit......)

I use same source CD(protection disk) to test.
1. I use CloneCD(4.1.0.10) to burn CD-R media (imation 24x and
K Hypermedia 24x), coaster 10 disk already.

2. I use the same method on my plextor 121032s without any
problem. I can use the disk no problem.
3. I use the same method on DRU-500a no error with memorex
CD-RW(4X), I can use it no problem.

List below are what I am thinking about:
1. Will this drive select the type of the media?
2. Is this drive only good for "Rewrite able media?
3. Will the new firmware solve problem?
4. The problem is the CloneCD not fully support DRU-500a yet?

note: If the source cd not protection cd, works find for sony drive!!

Finally I found the answer for my dru-500a
The problem could be colneCD software( I am not very sure), right now, I can successful backup the problem cd, I drop the write speed to 4x for
cd-r, the SONY drive works find now. It means that cloneCD works with DRU-500a, but it can be a bug( why on 4x for sony drive?). my plextor drive w/o this limitation.!!

If any one have any command, please let me know! Thanks!!!

i would bet your burning software you are useing dosen't support your sony dru500. i heard nero has just put out a new version out and it is suppose to support the sony drive

Try a burn using the Veritas RecordNow software which came with your drive. Sony sold it packaged with it for a reason, it works! Until software catches up with this awesome peice of hardware, I plan on simply using the software bundle that came with it...and you know what, it is not too bad. I created cds, dvds, and even an awesome photo-cd with interactive menus...the software may have its limitations, but it works for sure...

There's incompatibility problems with CloneCD and the Sony DRU500A.

I'm using Nero 5.9.9.17 and burning imation 24X, KHypermedia 24X, generic brand 16X at OfficeMax for $4.99 200-PK.

It all burns well with the Sony. So, it's not the media it's the burning software. Have you try to update your firmware to 1d? and try it to see if it's the firmware. www.sony.storagesupport.com
