  3. TMPEGEnc can't handle most "new" QuickTime MOVie files. Most likely due to a format change (and some encryption). Try extracting the WAV Audio from the MOV using MOV2AVI and encode in TMPGEnc using the MOV as the Video Source and the WAV as the Audio Source.

If this doesn't work, try using MOV2AVI to actually convert both the Audio and Video to a new AVI (be prepared for a large file) and then use that AVI as the A/V Source in TMPGEnc.

At times I have resulted to extract the WAV with MOV2AVI and then extract the video into uncompressed AVI using RAD Video Tools.

    Give it a try.

    Good Luck!

Let me start by admitting one thing... I don't use MOV2AVI very much. I wish someone had a GUI for it... while MOV2AVI is a very good tool, if you don't know how to work it then it is of no use.

    Here is what I do:

Use MOV2AVI just to extract the Audio. That part is easy:

    MOV2AVI filename.avi -w

Run the above command replacing "filename.avi" with whatever AVI you are trying to convert. The result will be a WAV file of the Audio only (filename.wav).

Now use RAD Video Tools to convert the Video ONLY.

My reasoning behind this seemingly complicated set of steps is this: while you can extract the Audio and Video separately, many tools such as MOV2AVI, RAD Video Tools and even QuickTime Pro will not extract both to create one file. This has something to do with formats and encryption.

Alot of times I find myself needing to convert Movie Trailers. My first approach is always to use QuickTime Pro. Alot of times this approach works but in other cases I take the "brute force" attack by using MOV2AVI to extract the WAV Audio and RAD Video Tools to extract the Video.

I have tried messing with MOV2AVI to extract both Audio and Video but have had limited success based on my limited understanding of it command-line parameters... hence the multi-step conversion I have given you today.

    I hope that helps.

Maybe if a day comes when I am not so stressed with the construction of my house and work I might make a GUI for MOV2AVI... but then pigs would be flying everywhere and those people in hell would be freezing.
