DVD will accept VCD without re-encoding the video ( they audio will have to be take up to 48khz ).

No, you cannot use VCDeasy. You will need to use a mpeg-1 friendly DVD authoring package.

    Let me be clear....

DVD's will not support a VCD structure! Possibly is you have an Apex you MIGHT be able to get away with it, but I can tell you the majority of players would not recognize it.

You can put VCD video onto a DVD in a DVD compliant way, but you must use DVD authoring tools and you must convert your audio ( audio ONLY ) to 48khz.

Yes, you can do exactly what you want:

Well... the guide says you can....
    Havnt tried it myself.

  6. No he can't do exactly as he wants. Although the DVD format will accept VCD specification video, with an increase in audio frequency to 48KHz. The video needs to be authored as a DVD, using DVD authoring software. You cant just burn it as an extra long VCD, it has to be authored and burned as a DVD.

  7. Right- The guide says to author as a DVD (software), onto DVD (media), using the MPGs from a VCD, without reencoding the video.

I don't know why he wants to merge them, since it would make more since to keep them as separate MPGs....

The only problems are compliance issues.

His player may not play MP2 audio on a DVD, and converting to PCM will decrease the space. Some players won't even play 352x240 on DVD, or MPEG1.

On the other hand, my Mustek will play MPEG-1s w/ 44.1 in the root of an UDF-ISO DVD. Heck, I can throw VBR-MP3s in there as well.
But my old RCA only plays 720x480-mpeg2 DVDs, and nothing else. (I keep it because it lacks the chroma-bug).
