    Hi all

I use WinAVI to create the Video_TS directory and then burn with Star Burn.
When I play it in my standalone DVD player (which is not new), I find that after about 20 minutes of playing, the DVD sticks and I cannot continue

Does not happen with VCD (if that helps at all)

If I play it in Windows Media Player, it seems fine

    WinAVI = rubbish
    Star Burn = rubbish

What is your media ? Hopefully a better choice than your software.

Ditch WinAVI. If you want fast and better quality than WinAVI, try DVD Flick. If you want quality, try FAVC and wait for the results.

Burn only with Imgburn to quality media (Verbatim or TY -Rs)

I also tried ImgBurn and had the same results.

I did not try with Verbatim media as I have not seen any. I have used Teac.

I used to use Nero but it caused a bad audio synch.

I am here to learn. I will try the other programs you suggest

Teac is so obscure that http://www.nomorecoasters.com doesn't even have it listed. That doesn't give me a good feeling about it. You'll probably have to mail order Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. I mail order almost all my media - that's just how life is when you care about quality.

I agree with guns1inger's post, but I do want to add that it is possible that your DVD player is becoming defective. It's possible that the DVD laser (it's different from the CD laser that plays VCDs, so that's why VCDs play OK) may be going bad or needs cleaning. Do a web search on how to clean a lens on a laser in a DVD player with rubbing alcohol. It rarely helps, but in some rare cases it does. So it could be any combination of the above - old player going bad, bad media, bad burning software.

It may be the player because I tried the suggestion and used DVD Flick, burned with ImgBurn and even used Verbatim media.

Still croaked on me (after 20minutes). Maybe I should try and re-burn.

Think about it for a minute...

You've changed to good encoding software and good burning software. You've also changed to use good media.

    I think jman98 has a point.

Your burner or player are going South.

Try one of your discs in someone elses player. If it works, look at your player.
