When I start frameserving in Vdub and create a Filename.vdr.avi (like the guide says), TMPGEnc will not open that file. If I just call the file Filename.vdr, then I start TMPGEnc and load the .vdr file, it just sets there with the hour glass. I then have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill the TMPGEnc (of course it takes about 8 times to kill it). Then I will start TMPGEnc again and load the .vdr file and it works fine. Does anyone have any ideas on getting the .vdr.avi file to work or getting the .vdr to work better? Thanks

  2. First make sure you installed the VFAPI plugin for TMPGenc (www.tmpgenc.com) also I would just name the file xxx.vdr instead of xxx.vdr.avi

I've also found that TMPGenc sometimes has trouble opening files if I have the source set to interlace, so I load the standard VCD template and then open the video file. I have NO idea why this works, but it often does

Yes, TMPG accepts .vdr files. Why rename?

I have already loaded the VFAPI for TMPGEnc and setup Vdub properly with auxsetup. I got the .vdr.avi thing from vcdhelp.com guide. I tried that and it didn't work. I will try the progressive setting and see if it works better.
    thanks.

One more thing. After installing the handler you have to run PROXYON.REG, that you will find in the Aviproxy subdirectory. After framserving/encoding run PROXYOFF.REG.
I know this is necessary to frameserve to CCE, but TMPG accept .vdr files, so all this is not necessary. There is no difference between .vdr and .vdr.avi.

  7. You shouldn't install proxyon.reg because TMPGEnc should directly support VDR files. The proxy is only used when renaming your .vdr to .avi for compatiblity with programs that don't support .vdr. Just use install the handler and that's it.

If that doesn't work, try playing around with the prioritiy of the VFW reader in TMPGEnc's environmental options. If it still won't work, you could use Avisynth to frameserve the VDR to TMPGEnc.
