I saw in stores somethink called "External Drive Kit". What could be the reason to not place my internal DVD burner to this case and make it External and portable ? Is there some real issue related to this ?

I guess FireWire, since I have it on my Desktop and Laptop. But USB 2.0 and FireWire will be better combination as it will be more portable.
Am I facing any issues with external enclosure ?
Why Oxford 911 ?
Thanks. -

Most software I use works fine with my LF-D311 in a generic Firewire enclosure ($60 at CompuApps.com).
However, my DVD Movie Album software (which was written for that drive specifically) will NOT install without the drive physically installed on my computer on an IDE chain. The installer will not recognize the drive inside the Firewire enclosure. Ironically though, once I've installed the software, I can reinstall the drive back into the enclosure and the software works fine with it.
Also, many of the firmware updaters I've used with various CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives won't work with the Firewire enclosure. The same would be true of a DVD recorder firmware update. -
I would stay away from the ADS USB 2.0 external case. I tried this with my HP DVD200i and my computer would hang at memory check on a soft-reset/reboot unless it was started with the external ADS enclosure pwered off. It seemed to be corrupting/hanging the USB bus during its BIOS startup and I have read about this problem that others have with USB and various hardware. I was worried my computer was the problem. I have a small 3.5" external firewire/USB 2.0 combo for external HD that uses the oxford chipset and just for fun I hooked my HP dvd200i into it to see if the same problem would happen. I tried both firewire and USB 2.0 connectors and it did not have same problem as ADS with USB 2.0. FYI I have a Shuttle SS51G.
I have ordered the new ADS firewire case (looks identical to the USB 2.0) and don't think I will have any problems with bootup issue with my mainboard because firewire is not really probed or detected by BIOS.
joepic, thanks for that link, I ordered 2 of the 1394/USB2.0 cases from there - never know when I am going to need one! -

I use the slightly older ADS firewire encloses with an SS50. No boot problems, so you should be OK.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
