  1. I hope there is such a thing: an external case for a bluray or dvd player (usb or sata) that has controls on the case to actually operate the player -ff, rewind, pause, stop, goto xxx, etc

I know that Vantec and StarTech make 5.25" external cases for optical drives in both USB and eSATA.

I have not seen an optical drive have control buttons on it since Creative Labs original CD-ROM drives in the '90's. I too would like to find such a drive as the buttons would be handy on my HTPC.

I agree with video head - the only thing I've seen is the eject button.

Don't they already come with it? I think it's called the chassis.

Even if there was such an item, which I do believe there is not, such controls are quite limited.

That is practically all you can do on a stand-alone - open/close, play, stop - but when you need to navigate a disk you have to rely upon the remote or in the case of a PC on the software.
