I'm trying to copy a vcd, but when I burned it, the result is a Avi file. Why is that?

You could have copied a cdr that happened to contain an avi.

In that case it wasn't a vcd.

No, it was a vcd. But I think that the problem was that I wasn't using a burning utility like NERO to burn it. I simply did file-write to cd.Could that have been the case?

Yes that's the problem you created a data disc with an avi file on it.
Even if you build a VideoCD structure on your HD you can't copy it directly to CD because it will be written in mode1 and videoCD are written in mode2.

You need to choose "VideoCD" as file type and then load the avi. Nero will convert it to an mpeg1 and create the VideoCD structure.

You may not like the quality because Nero is not the best encoder and some specs may need to be changed in the conversion from avi to mpeg1 and Nero is not able to do certain things.

It would be better to load the file in tmpgenc to convert the file to mpeg1 and then burn the VideoCD with Nero.

I may be missing the point here but..
if i need to copy a vcd for what reason i just don't know then its a long time ago but i used clonecd and if i remember it came out fine

This is not a vcd to vcd issue.

just having a peek as i'm a learner.....may i ask are you saying that its better to covert an mpeg to vcd useing nero ,rather than useing nero for the avi to vcd encodeing.

Hold on, this is interesting question. I just learned how to make my own VCDs and SVCDs from DVDs. But what it the easiest path to make a copy of existing SVCD/VCD CD???

Is it enough to use simple copy program as Easy CD copier???

No he said it is better to convert the AVI to MPEG-1 using a specific video encoder like TMPGEnc. Then the resulting MPEG-1 file should be loaded into a burning program like Nero (using VCD template) and burn VCD. Use the guides provided on this site, so you wont go wrong.

hello......thats exactly what i thought he said only use nero to encode the mpeg file...... ......as regards copying the best cd to cd copying programme in my opinion ic clone cd,which" does exactly what it says on the tin".thank you.
