Sony DRU500A doesnt recongize disks what does this mean?

HI, i have a sony DRU-500 and it doesnt recongize disks when i put it in, does this mean its not compatible?
for reference, i use ritek disks (it recongize the sony dvd-r and maxell). it just says "drive not ready" when i click the drive and it keeps prompting me to enter a disk even though the ritek is in it. (sorry i'm a dvd-r newbie)

Did you put a black DVD-R? If not did you finalize the DVD-R?

its a blank one, i havent written it yet, i just want the computer to recongize it so i can write it. its a silver/purple ritek media, blank, i tried 3 of them and it recongize any of them (but sony blanks and maxell blanks are fine)

Sorry. Mistype. Generally blank media doesn't recognized in explorer. Try to burn it but make sure finalizing the DVD-R if you record a data dvd. I burnt 20 Ritek Prime media without single coaster. I'm not sure your Ritek works. I got the media from shop4tech.com

If you are using Windows XP the following will apply:
You can't burn DVD writables using Windows Explorer (well DVD-RAM you can, but the drive doesn't support them).

You need to use a burning program such as RecordNow which comes with the drive. Other programs that work are Nero and Easy CD Creator

I was wondering if you found an answer to your Ritek media problem.
I just bought the DRX500UL, and it seems I am the only one on this forum who's Ritek Media won't read. I have tried using Nero, Record Now, and DVDDecrypter. I have also upgraded to 1.0f and it still wont read.

Please let me know if you figured it out.
