  1. I've been thinking. It seems that the forums are filled with questions asking for help in using a particular program, problems with authoring programs not accepting certain audio/video formats, etc.

Why don't we all come together and bring it all to an end?

    By that, I mean:
Why Don't We Create OUR OWN software program??!!

It could be a fully featured, ripping, editing, encoding, and authoring suite,
equipped with all the features we need in order to make VCDs, SVCDs, and DVDs. It could be easy enough for newbies, and advanced enough for the seasoned veteran. And it could be distributed as freeware to all registered members.

I don't know code, so I don't know how big of a task pulling something like this off will be. . . maybe somebody who does know could pull together a team of programmers here at the forums and attempt to try it.

    I don't know, it's just an idea.

That would be cool, but I'd make it off of another site other then VCDhelp.com. I kinda like this site and would hate to see it shut down.

Well, I do know code, having been a programmer for nearly 20 years (yes I am that old, lol!). This would be an enormous task and to a large extent re-inventing the wheel. Although the tools we use are by no means perfect a large proportion of them are already freeware. In fact there is not much that freeware cannot do. Look at the commercial tools available, the size and financial backing of the companies producing them and the fact that even the best of these has problems and or limitations. Personally I doubt it could be done.

What may be possible is to use existing open source code and other freeware tools and produce an all-in one package that does most if not all of what we want. Several packages already exist that go part way towards this solution such as DVD2SVCD.

Basically its possible (as I frequently say to my boss, its software, anythings possible (well, almost)), but is it practical, I don't think so.

    Just my opinion!
