  1. I've read the help sections regarding WMV and still can't get TMPGEnc to recognize my WMV. Before it played in WMV, I got pop up saying I had to download some WIndows codec pack. I did that and it played (I'm using XP Pro). When I try and load it into TMPGEnc I get a 'not recognized' error. I've changed the extention to .asf and tried increasing the priority of DirectShow Multimedia File Reader with no luck. Please help! Thanks.

    Possible things to check:

1- did you install the vfp plugins that came with tmpgenc

2- Microsoft has a new release = wmv9... Is it possible that the file is encoded that way and tmpgenc does not recognize it.

I run win98se so can read wmv9 in wmp but can't encode it because the sample encode app need 2k or xp.

If I could test that theory I would do so before suggesting it. At least you can play the clip in wmp and check the properties. It will tell what the encoder is. I know tmpgenc can handle wmv8.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I've been qute busy. :/

I checked the properties of the video and it is indeed encoded in WMP 9. What is the application I need to encode it. Will the stoik app mentioned in the post above work?

    Thanks!
